Coach's CornerJun 21, 2010, 11:14 pm I hope everyone is enjoying their summers and not feeling the Aberystwyth withdrawl too hard. With the recent release of the 2010 schedule I felt it appropriate to put out a few words to provide some focus and perhaps a touch of motivation. It's all to easy to look at the schedule and make assumptions and get over confident but it's worth noting that plenty of people did that about Tarannau entering the 2009 season! I know we weren't satisfied with our 4-4 record after all the work put in to get to that point, so we need to be taking steps to go further, faster and harder if we want more from the 2010 season. I'm sure you'll be thinking "Yeah yeah, I'll get on it in September" but I've spoken to a number of coaches and players around the league and they are already raving about their off-season work and how they're planning and preparing for the new season. I can only hope that we are doing what we can to keep up and get where we want to go. Plus you'll be wanting to look buff for those lazy beach days ;) Coach Dayus Mar 6, 2010, 4:35 pm With the late cancellation of our game for the 2nd week running I can appreciate that these last few weeks have been somewhat of a mess for people but you musn't lose focus on the ultimate goal we set ourselves at the start of the year. We will return to training on Tuesday, 9th, in Hugh Owen C43 @ 6:30pm, please make sure you attend else inform a member of the coaching staff as to your absence. The Varsity event at Bangor that we're now heading towards is a big deal for the University and a great opportunity for us to finish on a positive note, so let's be prepared and go get this win. Coach Dayus Jan 27, 2010, 8:29 pm Ok so it's not stictly kicking off 2010 because we had our first training session of the year on Sunday...however we will be kicking off 2010 on Sunday 31/1 with a long day of training. Starting at 10am on the astro we will revisit mini camp and put you through some a number of performance tests before getting lunch at the Black Lion and then moving to Blaendolau (hopefully) for an afternoons training session. This is going to be the start of the only full weeks training we'll get to see us through 5 games that could see us claim a play-off spot, post a winning record or other. Be there fellas! Coach Dayus Dec 7, 2009, 7:19 pm Guys, we've got our last game before the holidays coming up and with it comes a great opportunity to go home with a winning record. We have our regular Tuesday training session tomorrow, 2.5 hours of your time is all we ask of you this week before you take it onto the field. I hope that ALL of you will be there to help yourselves and your team mates prepare fully for this fixture. We've shown a great talent and desire in this sport every time we've got involved so far but we need to make one more push in 2009 to get to where we want to be. Once this session is done it'll be on you to make sure you are physically and mentally prepared to go and take this win, Bath are a good side and are not going to let you get the result. You need to be taking care of your bodies; getting stronger and getting healthy. As well as getting your heads sorted by priming your own skills through film review, personal/group drills and playbook study. If you require any assistance there are any number of people who can and will help you, be it a member of the coaching staff, a captain, a veteran or just another team mate. Coach Dayus Nov 22, 2009, 5:46 pm First off guys I'd like to say that whilst we got some good work done from the guys that showed up today it was very disappointing to have so many people not there, especially as only 3 people had informed coaches of absence. You are all aware of our training schedule now and how we adapt it to the weather so there is no excuse there. I sincerely hope that you at least took some time to go over your playbooks to compensate (somewhat) for your absence. Coach Dayus Nov 18, 2009, 1:36 pm Guys with the Welsh Bowl being postponed we now have another week of training before we face the UWE Bullets, whilst their is no substitute for game experience we can still get a lot of good work done during training. Therefore it is VITAL that we see big turnouts and big efforts in the run up to this game in order to maximise our potential for success. Coach Dayus Nov 12, 2009, 2:29 pm Ok guys so the Liverpool game has been postponed but that doesn't mean we have a free weekend. Rather it means we have an opportunity to get some extra training in before a very tough fixture against our perennial rivals the Cardiff Cobras for the Welsh Bowl. This is a big game on our calender every year so let's make the most of the situation we find ourselves in. Take all the necessary measures to get yourselves healthy, spend time with your playbooks and work to hone your skills so we can claim our first bit of silverware this season.
Coach Dayus Nov 5, 2009, 3:07 pm Ok guys the first game of the season is just a few days away so lets get ourselves ready. Make sure you're sorted for kit (NUS/LIBRARY CARD, helmet, gumshield, pads, legset etc), ensure you're as fit and healthy as possible come game day (taking any necessary preventative measures regarding known injuries and likely ones, well hydrated and fed) and that you know your playbooks (O/D and special teams, start with the the basics and build up). If you have any problems get in touch with either the coaches or committee BEFORE sunday. Bus leaves Porters Lodge at 7:40, Pier at 7:50. Lets get to it! Coach Dayus Oct 5, 2009, 1:14 pm Guys... Sep 25, 2009, 8:53 pm First off thanks to Neil Dayus for coming all the way from Portsmouth(ish) to run our fitness sessions for the second straight year and secondly thanks to you guys for putting in so much effort over all 9 sessions. Enjoy your weekend off. Committee no doubt have plans for sports fayre next week so lets get on this recruitment thing and add some more talent and enthusiasm to our roster then we can get down to the nitty-gritty football at next weekends Mini Camp!
Coach Dayus May 30, 2009, 9:03 pm As was discussed at the recent team meeting, training schedule and structure will be revised for 09/10, the details of which will be going up on the calender as soon as possible in order to allow you to make plans as needed. Please keep an eye on this so you don't miss out. Coach Dayus Mar 2, 2009, 3:24 pm

So as soon as you have your timetables email tarannau_coach@hotmail.co.uk with it in the following format; DAY-DATE-TIME Also I'm hoping to redo the playbooks over the holidays so all the tweaks and additions are included into one document so keep an eye out for that in your inbox's. If anyone wants fitness plans for the holidays then get onto 'Strongerfaster Training'. Anything else then get in touch and have a great time over the holidays and come back ready go 6-0... Coach Dayus Dec 5, 2008, 12:55 pm Remember the bus LEAVES from the Porters Lodge at 5am and from the pier at 5:15am. If you're making your own way there please ensure you have told me so I don't call you at 5am only to find you're asleep 1hr away from the pitch!! Regardless of travel plans everyone should aim to arrive at Bulmershe Campus before 11am. Make sure you have; 1. LIBRARY CARD 2. Pads & Shirt 3. Helmet & Gumshield 4. Leg Set & Hip n Tail Set 5. Socks & Boots 6. Base Layers/Gloves etc Coach Dayus Nov 30, 2008, 3:22 pm Here is the training schedule for this week; Monday: 10am, Astro - OL, DL, RB & LB [Full Kit] Tuesday: As normal [Full Kit] Wednesday: 2pm, Pantycelyn Field [Full Kit] A kicking session and a game prep session are also planned and to be confirmed. Also we need to start preparations for the travel to Reading so if you are planning on making your own way to or from the game then get in touch with myself AND Ben please. Nov 24, 2008, 3:32 pm We will be in Hugh Owen D5 at 6:30pm as usual tomorrow (25/11) to review the game footage, then we will move into the cage at 8pm. Wednesday (26/11) we will be on Pantycelyn 3-6pm so keep your eyes and ears open for more details. Sunday (30/11) we will be on Pantycelyn 10-12pm. We were shown several areas to improve on and issues that need to be addressed so I hope all of you will make the effort to get to training this week and train well so that we can move ahead towards the next fixture in a position to go 1-1. Coach Dayus Nov 16, 2008, 2:51 pm Ok so aside from today's mess (thanks for showing up by the way, was one of our best turn outs... wouldn't you believe it!) we still have 4 training sessions left in the run up to our season opener Vs Bath. Tuesday 18/11 - Hugh Owen D5 @ 6:30pm then Sports Cage @ 8pm [EVERYONE] This is vitally important as we will be going through the scout info on Bath and getting you prepared to work against these looks in training and make the necessary adaptations. Bring pen and paper to the whiteboard (maybe print out the stuff that was sent to you recently too) and wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the Cage session. Wednesday 19/11 - Pantycelyn Field @ 4pm [EVERYONE] Full Kit and please be ready to go at 4pm as this is our 1 contact session before the game we ALL need to spend the time on it. As usual however we will have to wait and see what the weather brings with this one, we will as always try to keep you up to date with what's happening but you need to keep yourselves aware too. Thursday 20/11 - Astro Turf @ 2:30pm [QB, WR, RB, LB, DB] Full Kit and again please be there on time or as close as you can as this will allow us greater time to get comfortable and confident with our passing offence and defence, which will reap obvious benefits come game time. This is especially important guys as the Quarter Backs have requested time to work on the pass game so don't let them down! Saturday 22/11 - Plascrug Leisure Centre Sports Hall @ 3pm [EVERYONE] Trainers and loose clothing only required as this will be a low intensity session whereby we will make sure everyone is comfortable with the game plan for the next day and also allow us an opportunity to discuss game management procedures which are a very important part of game day. If you know you won't be able to make one of these sessions then find a way to reorganise your self and get there. If you REALLY can't make it then email my coaching address or contact me by phone. Don't facebook me and don't tell me to my face, I will forget and I don't want to shout at you for that... Read your playbooks, ask questions and stay healthy lads Coach Dayus Nov 14, 2008, 4:17 pm Myself and Coach Foley have prepared and sent out some documentation that we'd like you all to read and learn by the weekend, this is important stuff and could prove to be a big help in our upcoming game. Also to keep you up to date, training will be at our regular back up slot of the Sports Cage at 10am. So make sure you get down there early so we can start on time, it's only a 2hr session now so you've gained two hours for any work you have so no excuses please lads. Coach Dayus Nov 12, 2008, 7:42 pm There is no training session tomorrow (13/11) afternoon. Sunday (16/11) I'd like to have full attendance guys(whether it be on blan or in the cage!), if you have work then get it done Saturday and Sunday night because its getting close to game time guys and we still have a lot of work to do. Some people have already told me they won't be in aber this weekend but if you're in aber and fit then lets get to training and get ready for the Bath game. Coach Dayus Nov 10, 2008, 6:50 pm There will not be a classroom session tomorrow so I want everyone to meet at the sports cage at 7:45pm so we can get straight into our indoor training session. Coach Dayus Nov 6, 2008, 6:52 pm First off can I just say guys that if you're going to miss a session then let me know either by phone or by emailing tarannau_coach@hotmail.co.uk (don't use my personal email or facebook please). If you don't yet have my number get it off me at training, or before should you see me. As for training this week we have: Sunday as normal, Blaendolau 12-4pm (keep your eyes on the sky for rain though because we might have to move into the cage again). Monday we have the astro turf booked from 2-4pm {we will make a decision later as to who we want to attend this session). Tuesday as normal: Hugh Owen D5 6:30pm then the cage 8pm (again we will make our decision later as to who we want to attend). Wednesday as normal: Blaendolau 2-4pm. (weather permitting) Thursday as normal: Astro Turf 2:30pm (again we will make our decision later as to who we want to attend). Nov 5, 2008, 9:19 pm All Running Backs, Quarter Backs, Offensive and Defensive Lineman to attend training session Thursday 6/11 at 2:30pm on the astro turf. Nov 3, 2008, 5:09 pm
The
classroom session tomorrow will be for the defensive backs and
linebackers 6:30pm in Hugh Owen D5. Then everyone is to meet in the
sports cage at 8pm. Wednesday we will hopefully be on Blaendolau so regular training time of 2pm, full kit. Coach Dayus Oct 30, 2008, 3:26 pm Sunday's training session will now be held in the sports cage at 10am, unkitted, please remember to wear some good trainers. Oct 27, 2008, 8:42 pm Although the game has been postponed training is still on for Tuesday 28/10 at 9am on the astro, this is to make up for Wednesday when we will have no training (due to the bad weather). All other regular training slots remain as normal (Tuesday evening and Thursday afternoon) with this week's Thursday astro session being for both O & D Line, RB's, QB's & LB's. Oct 27, 2008, 2:06 pm There is an emergency team meeting tonight, 27/10, at 6:15pm meeting in Bar9. Make sure you're there and that everyone else knows about it! Coach Dayus Oct 26, 2008, 1:57 pm
Guys it is very important that if you can't make training for some reason you let me know. Don't just ignore it! So the idea is to get an hour or so training in on Tuesday and Thursday as well as our regular training time. This is to ensure everyone is comfortable and competent with contact skills as well as specials. We will also be holding an hours session on Saturday hopefully to go through all our pre game stuff. So as always keep eyes on the forum/website/emails for details and if you haven't heard anything on those mornings then get in touch with either myself, coach Foley or ben and we'll let you know the details. Finally if any of you have any issues with registration/kit/playbooks etc get in touch again with either myself, coach Foley or a member of the committee don't just wait till Sunday. Oct 24, 2008, 3:49 pm
Ok
so the weather system is due to move in earlier on Saturday than I was
hoping so there will be no training on Saturday, however also due to
the weather Sunday's training will be moved to the sports cage at 10am.
This session is only for those on the depth chart to ensure maximum
repetitions, please ensure you have
good trainers and appropriate clothing. We will then hopefully move onto Blaendolau/Pantycelyn Field for some contact work (so remember boots & gum shields).
Oct 20, 2008, 2:11 am Tuesday's whiteboard session will be a full team session; everyone in Hugh Owen D5 @ 6:30pm (Bring paper and a pen). Wednesday we will be on Pantycelyn field @ 4pm Oct 14, 2008, 10:10 pm
If
you hadn't already guessed it yet the rain again means Blan is off,
unfortunately due to its prior state and the heavy rain panty is also
off, I've tried all other viable resources and there's nothing doin so
there is no training tomorrow. There is still however the session
Thursday 2:30-3:30 on the astro for OL, RB & QB (unkitted) don't
forget! Guys as we're gettin closer and closer to our first game I'd
urge you to spend at least some time going over the playbook material
we've covered so far. Test yourselves with it, draw up our plays from
different formations against different opposition looks etc, do
something football constructive (madden doesn't count) for at least 30
minutes tomoz in place of training, it'll do you the world of good.
Coach Dayus Oct 12, 2008, 7:04 pm This week we will be holding a Defensive whiteboard session usual place, usual time...that's D5 Hugh Owen Building at 6:30pm. We will then move to the cage to start installing the new material, so make sure you have some good trainers Oct 12, 2008, 1:34 am Ok so tomorrow the plan is to get everyone some time in kit to go through some contact work as was planned for last Sunday's training. As such it is important that we have all the club kit available for use so, rookie or vet, if you've been assigned some kit (pads, lid, legset) then make sure you bring it down to tomorrows session. If you can't make it then 1. let me know & 2. make sure someone else can take the kit to training. Coach Dayus Oct 8, 2008, 12:23 pm Firstly guys I'd just like to apologise for the massive amount of changes we've been throwing out recently with regard to training location, times etc. Unfortunately this is somewhat a hallmark of sport in Aber. We will always seek to keep you as well informed as possible but sometimes that is only a matter of hours. As such I will reiterate the importance of the checking the website and/or forum especially the night before and the morning of training/game days, should you not have this available to you then you need to get an 'informant' who can let you know or get in touch with either myself, Coach Foley or a member of the committee. Coach Dayus Oct 2, 2008, 10:29 pm *EDIT* Sunday's training session, 12/10, will be our first kitted practice of the new season and I want to get as much done as possible. In order for this session to be efficient everyone must arrive on time (or earlier) and with all the necessary items i.e. boots/cleats, a moulded gum shield (that isn't clear or white) and your sporty card / receipt for sporty card, without any of these things you won't be kitting up. This way the time spent sorting out kit has a minimal affect on the available time for training, allowing you all plenty of opportunity to experience fully kitted American football and develop your skills at it. Coach Dayus Oct 1, 2008, 7:22 pm Tomorrow (Thursday 2nd Oct) 2.30 - 3.30 on the Astro Pitch up top (by the gym for the rookies), offense only, will be completing and tying together the offensive plays combining the positional training you have received so far. It is essential that all offensive personnel make it so that on Sunday we can kit you up and have you focusing on your own skills, not the plays. Bring your playbook and a pencil so you can take notes relevant to your position. Ill be hungover too, so therell b minimal running, just understanding. Coach Will Sep 25, 2008, 4:37 pm Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond me, the club simply cannot kit up everyone that has signed up, therefore starting Sunday the 28th, we will be evaluating performance during training sessions to find our team members for the 08-09 season, we're currently capable of providing club kit for 45 people. I hope that this information will not damage your interest in the sport but will drive you to focus and develop over these next two (possibly 3) training sessions. After this time we will be kitting up those we can, those who don't are welcome to stay involved with the club including training, obviously with certain limitations on contact, and beyond. Should players get injured then kit could be assigned to someone else so there is still potential for playing time and we will be requiring game day help from people which will be greatly appreciated. Coach Dayus Sep 20, 2008, 10:42 am Firstly I'd like to say well done to everyone, returners and rookies, who made it to training camp, a good work ethic was displayed by all and we made some nice progress on the new playbook material. I'd also like to thank Neil Dayus for his help with our fitness regimen and his work with some of our injured players, we'll be seeing him again no doubt. As the title suggests, the thing for us to do now is move through 'freshers week' and sports fayre to bring in some new faces and maintain this momentum all the way to the season opener. Make the new guys feel welcome, lead by example and lets get everyone ready to play. Coach Dayus Sep 8, 2008, 12:58 am Ok so both the offensive and defensive playbooks are now completed and have been emailed out. If anyone has not received them yet then email tarannau_coach@hotmail.com and include your name (please don't call/text/facebook me about this, use the email). Same if you have any problems opening/reading the file or want your contact email changed (that is important as I will be using that frequently to contact you all). I'd recommend spending some time reading through the playbooks before you come to camp to help speed up the learning process, we've got a lot of new stuff this season and we need to get started early. If you have any questions regarding the playbook material then feel free to get in touch. Also if you know you will be missing camp and haven't already then please let me know. See you on the 15th, 9am, on the field, ready to work. Aug 9, 2008, 7:27 pm
