History And Information
The History Of Tarannau Cheerleaders...
The cheerleaders have a history of success, competing against some of the best squads in the country, with two winning routines in the 2005-2006 academic years. Many of our past cheerleaders have also participated on the Great British Bulldogs squad. The Tarannau Cheerleader’s have grown significantly over the years, with more and more of the girls achieving coaching qualifications. We also have great relations with our partner team the American Footballers, and pride ourselves on maintaining a great reputation throughout the town.
As a new year approaches we are excited to welcome potential cheerleaders to try something new and different, whilst at the same time meeting people and making new friends.
Cheerleading does not only consist of cheering at games; but brings together gymnastics and dance to create highly choreographed and impressive routines.
All elements of cheerleading, whether cheering at games, stunting, dancing etc, are great fun and an excellent way to keep fit. There will also be a chance to get to know the team during our social nights which are held every Wednesday, events full of fun, games, fancy dress and drinking. Our first social event, Tarannau Time is a part joint event with the American Footballers where we give a taste of Tarannau’s social life. This is a great night which helps us to get to know you, you to get to know us, and for you to decide whether cheerleading is for you.
Information About Tarannau Cheerleaders...
The Tarannau Cheerleaders are made up of game day squad and competition squad. Game day squad support the American Footballers during games, cheering them on at the sidelines and inspiring them to win! Learning to stunt in stunting sessions once a week is also a part of being on the game day squad. Every Wednesday the whole squad will meet in the Union to learn the cheers and discuss any matters to do with the club, including our socials, cheer kit and other events. All Tarannau Cheerleaders are included in the game day squad, and therefore expected to attend every game that they can. American football games are played at Blaendolau playing fields, away games will be played at the rival teams’ destination, usually on Sundays. A number of girls will go to the away games with the American football team on the away bus, this is always really good fun and always ends in a party whether we win or lose!
The competition squad consists of 25 members and will be picked a few weeks into the first term, as soon as everyone has learnt to stunt. The competition squad is chosen by The Captain, co-captain and Coach after try-outs. Everyone is invited to try-out. We’re not looking for perfection just a desire to work hard and try your best. The competition routine is a mix of cheering, dance, tumbling and stunting. Those who are chosen for competition squad must be dedicated as there will be 3 practice sessions a week which competition squad members must attend. Whether you’re on game day squad or competition squad, cheerleading is a fantastic opportunity to try something new. No experience is necessary, we’re a really friendly, close-knit team who always have fun, so why not give it a go. We guarantee you’ll love it!
